Veterinary Toxicologist

Sharon Welch, DVM, DABVT, DABTDr. Sherry Welch joined Pet Poison Helpline and SafetyCall International in July 2010. Sherry received her BS and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from the University of Illinois. After graduating from veterinary school, she practiced in a mixed animal practice. Her interest in toxicology led her to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, where she was employed for 12 years as Consulting Veterinarian in Clinical Toxicology/Senior Toxicologist. While working at the ASPCA, she became co-owner of a local animal emergency clinic. In 2008, Dr. Welch became board-certified in veterinary toxicology (ABVT), and then achieved her certification in general toxicology (ABT) in 2009. She has published several abstracts and journal articles, and has authored numerous chapters in several veterinary textbooks. Dr. Welch currently resides near the Twin Cities.  In her spare time she enjoys teaching comparative  anatomy at a local university and spending time with her children and numerous pets.
