Toxicity to pets

Propylene glycol is a synthetic chemical found in a wide variety of products. Single or sporadic ingestion by pets of low concentration propylene glycol as found in cosmetics or prepared foods is generally recognized as safe. However, ingestion of antifreeze products containing a high concentration of propylene glycol by animals is dangerous and leads to rapid onset of neurological signs (e.g. sedation, stumbling gait, seizure). Cats are very sensitive to propylene glycol and repeated ingestions – even at lower concentration – can result in severe anemia.
