Veterinary Toxicologist

Dr. Ashley Smit has been a staff veterinarian at Pet Poison Helpline® (PPH) since 2017. She obtained her BS and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University. Following veterinary school, Dr. Smit completed a rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at VCA Veterinary Care in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After her internship, she worked as a general practitioner for small animals and exotics in the Twin Cities. Dr Smit became a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology in 2022 and a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology in 2025. She resides in South Minneapolis with her hound mix Barkley.
