Toxicity to pets

Prescription Sleep Aids are a variable group of human medications indicated for the treatment of insomnia. The severity of poisoning following ingestion by a companion animal is dependent upon the specific drug and the dose consumed. Common clinical signs after ingestion of these medications by pets include neurological disturbance (e.g., sedation, stumbling gait, weakness or aggression) and gastrointestinal distress (e.g., drooling, vomiting), but ingestion of individual sleep aids- especially at high dose- may result in seizure, coma, low blood pressure, respiratory failure, and death.
