Soluble oxalate/oxalic acid are toxic compounds found in dangerous concentrations within sour Star Fruit. Ingestion of soluble oxalate/ oxalic acid by pet animals results in gastrointestinal distress (e.g., vomiting, drooling), neurological signs (e.g., weakness, trembling), decreased blood calcium levels, and kidney injury (e.g. excessive urination containing calcium oxalate crystals).
NOTE: Sweet Star Fruit contain very little soluble oxalate and are not poisonous to pets that have healthy kidneys
