Toxicity to pets

Onion, along with chives, garlic, and leeks, belong to the Allium family; all are poisonous to dogs, cats, and livestock. Poisonous doses of Alliums damage red blood cells leading to anemia and cause GI distress with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
