Toxicity to pets
Specific wild lupines contain the alkaloid toxin anagyrine. Ingestion of seeds/ seed pods by grazing livestock during pregnancy results in fetal birth defects; sheep are the most sensitive and goats the most resistant to this toxin. Other clinical signs reported in livestock grazing wild lupine seeds/ seed pods includes sudden respiratory failure and liver disease.
