Toxicity to pets

Seeds within peach pits have small amounts of cyanide-containing compounds and enzymes. If the peach pits are thoroughly chewed free cyanide can be released triggering cyanide poisoning. Cyanide reduces the body’s ability to process oxygen at a cellular level resulting in clinical signs including vomiting, drooling, gasping, collapse, seizure, and death. Because cats and dogs do not thoroughly chew their food it is unlikely that cyanide poisoning would happen following a peach pit ingestion.

Ingestion of a peach pit by a small breed dog or cat may result in a gastrointestinal obstruction.
