Toxicity to pets
Benzodiazepines are a class of drugs used in both human and veterinary medicine as sedatives, anti-anxiety medications, anti-convulsants (e.g., anti-seizure drugs), and muscle relaxants. When dogs and cats ingest a toxic dose of benzodiazepines, Central nercous system agitation or depression and gastrointestinal signs are most common. In severe cases, respiratory and cardiovascular depression may be seen. Cats are very sensitive to oral diazepam (i.e., Valium) and can develop sudden and severe liver failure.
