Toxicity to pets
Blue-green algae or cyanobacteria are microscopic organisms found in freshwater, salt-water, or brackish water. Blue-green algae may produce toxins including microcystins and anatoxins that affect people, livestock and pets who swim in and drink from the toxin-contaminated water. Exposure to toxins leads to gastrointestinal distress/ organ injury, neurological signs, or skin blisters.
