Hornets are stinging insects whose venom contains variable bioactive proteins. Companion animals experience pain, itching, and redness at the sting-site and may experience allergic shock or anaphylaxis with collapse. Multiple stings can cause severe respiratory distress, acute kidney failure, and death.
