Toxicity to pets

Iron is an essential element for all animals, but overdose of iron is poorly tolerated and results in poisoning. Ingestion of iron overdose by pets commonly occurs from consuming the contents of a chemical hand warmer, an oxygen absorber, or vitamin/ mineral supplements containing iron. Rapid onset poisoning includes clinical signs of vomiting, diarrhea and loss of appetite. Additional and worsening signs (dependent upon the severity of the overdose) include bloody vomit, bloody diarrhea, shock, liver injury/ failure and death.
