Toxicity to pets
Methionine is an essential amino acid (i.e., protein building block) that can be fed to animals to alter the pH of their urine. Grass saver tablets for dogs contain methionine to reduce the yellowing effect that dog urine has on grass. Overdose of methionine by pet animals results in gastrointestinal distress (e.g., vomiting, abdominal pain) and neurological signs (e.g., stumbling, dazed/ lethargic, tremor, blindness, coma).
