Toxicity to pets

The Solanaceae or nightshade family contains > 2000 plants. Some nightshades including Brunfelsia, Jimsonweed, and Tobacco are highly poisonous, and ingestion can result in cardiovascular dysfunction (e.g. irregular heart rate and rhythm) and neurological signs (e.g., tremor, seizure, collapse). Other members of this family such as the food crops eggplant, potato, tomato, pepper, and tomatillo are mildly poisonous; ingestion of a few bites of the foliage or fruits are unlikely to lead to clinical signs beyond minor nausea.
