Conium maculatum
Toxicity to pets
Poison hemlock is a highly toxic plant that rapidly causes neurologic signs in dogs and cats, as well as grazing animals like cattle, horses and small ruminants. Immediate veterinary examination and treatment is advised for any ingestion.
Poison hemlock is often misidentified as there are many plants that appear similar. A reliable plant ID is necessary. Taking pictures of the whole plant as well as close up pictures of the leaves and stems can aide in identification.
