Cats’ physiology, behavior, and metabolism makes them uniquely sensitive or resistant to toxins. We will review the common toxins that put cats at risk, such as human medications, plants, essential oils, and rodenticides. Similarly, we will review toxins that cats can tolerate particularly well, such as anticoagulant rodenticides and xylitol. These toxin risks will be related in terms of case management and risk reduction.
