Associate Veterinarian
I am a veterinarian at Pet Poison Helpline. I have had an eclectic career prior to my arrival here! I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2009, and since then have worked in emergency medicine, shelter medicine, exotics and wildlife medicine, and toxicology. I have lived and practiced in Minnesota, Oregon, Hong Kong, and Colorado. Like so many people here, I love veterinary medicine but after 12 years in clinical practice, I found myself ready for a new challenge. I fell into toxicology consulting back in 2021 with no real expectations, and fortuitously have found it to be my passion and my calling! I love that I can help animals, collaborate with colleagues, and keep my brain stimulated with challenging cases … but still be able to sleep on a regular schedule, be present for my family, and even have a little time for myself. I am a vocal advocate for prioritizing mental health within the veterinary space, given the vital importance of and emotional weight of the work we do, and actually once went on Montel Williams’ podcast to discuss this topic!
I like to say I am both a manager and purveryor of chaos. My husband Ian and I have 3 kids: Miriam and James (twins!), and Eoin. Miriam is the CEO of the Daly family, James is our gentle little soul, and Eoin is our feral dude who loves all things wild. All 3 kids were born in Hong Kong, where we lived for 7 years. Now we live at 8500 feet in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. We absolutely love our community here, but we also love to travel internationally and domestically, which is made feasible by Ian’s career as a pilot. So far I have visited 34 countries and 49 states, and the kids are not far behind me! We have a lovely dutch shepherd named Mabel, as well as 2 cats: a purrfect queen named Meredith, and the opinionated Harriet Lilith Nicklenut (she was stray we acquired on a trip to Hawaii who has cattitude to spare; she has never quite forgiven us for taking her from the beaches of Hawaii to the snowy mountains). I am certified as a yoga instructor, and I love hiking/exploring with my family, running trail races (formerly marathons and ultramarathons, but these days I keep it more low-key), snowboarding, reading anything I can (I especially love getting lost in a big series), writing poetry, beekeeping, checking out all of Colorado’s hot springs, and because of all of the above – napping!
